Watch Out, World!

Big Jim's finally got his hands on a digital camera, courtesy of the 'rents for his graduation (kindergarten).

Also. An ANNOUNCEMENT. Due to the tomb-like silence residing in this particular web address, I've decided to change to digs and move to Rico-Land. Who knows the wonders that Rico and Big Jim will come up with as they will now inhabit the same city for the first time since the halcyon days of 2005? One can only hope that their hijinks will be regularly blogged in a style befitting their magnificence.

Right: Big Jim's mug of tea on the dining room table, truly pushing the Sony DSC-W290 to its limits.

Thwarted

Catchy tune, good lyrics, even an engaging video (though I'm not really a music video guy), but they can't make up for a truly excrable refrain:

For some better Stereophonics songs, there's A Thousand Trees, More Life in Tramp's Vest, Mr. Writer, or Caravan Holiday (live and acoustic unfortunately).  Kelly Jones has a fabulously unique voice, and I love the effect of the way he can just pile on words in "A Thousand Trees" or "More Life in a Tramp's Vest."  Maybe he should have a poetry album?

This post is dedicated to Rico, who I think rightly diagnosed the thoroughly inadequate response level from our massive readership.

Reihan Salam Is Everying I Aspire to Be

(in a blogging sense).

Check out his latest post on The American Scene (which you should be reading anyway). Wit. Good music. Ghenghis Khan. Even some rap references for my poor deluded partner.

I'm going to have to check out The Dirty Projectors. That song is amazing.

That is all. Carry on.

Updates!

I updated the links on the bottom right.

I'd like to direct our loyal readers' attention to three in particular: Charlotte Was Both, Shadow Government, and Big Hollywood.

Amy Welborn has been writing Charlotte Was Both for over a year now, before which she wrote Open Book.  In my opinion she provides the best combination of Church news, analysis, and reflection.

Shadow Government is a new shared blog written recently unemployed foreign policy types. It should prove highly informative.

Finally, Andrew Breitbart kicked off Big Hollywood a couple of days ago.  His goal is to make Hollywood a place accepting of conservative views. I incline towards pessimism (both towards the feasibility and the means), but the project remains worthy and the reading should be entertaining.

I don't know how to put this,

but I'm kind of a big deal. People know me. I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Once again, my insght and striking observatory powers get me a spot in ESPN's live blog of a major golf championship.
9:56 a.m.: Great e-mail from Ryan in Milwaukee:

Doesn't Kenny Perry's scratched cornea improve his chances of winning? After all, this is the year of the injured victor.

Excellent point. OK, I'm sticking with him to make it 4-for-4 for recently/currently injured/ill players this year.
Based on my success, you might think it's easy to get yourself mentioned in one of these blogs. You'd be wrong.

Moving on up in the blogging world

At the risk of shedding part of my anonymity once again, I'd like to note that a question of mine made it into ESPN's Live Blog of the British Open:
4:56 p.m.: E-mail from Ryan in Milwaukee:

There's a good chance none of the "Big Four" will play on Saturday and Sunday. When was the last major with no Tiger, Phil, Ernie, or Vijay on the weekend?

Believe it or not, that's actually a pretty easy one to look up. It was the 1992 U.S. Open, when Tom Kite won at Pebble Beach. (Mickelson missed the cut; Woods, Singh and Els failed to qualify.) That's 64 straight majors in which at least one of those four made the cut.
I'm going to have to avert my eyes when I see the "What have you done to increase the share price today?" sign this afternoon.

Lies! All Lies!

Only I know how it truly went down.

While our esteemed Rico certainly presents a plausible version of events, the perfect linkages in his construct surely should make the discerning reader leery of accepting his version of events. The regrettable lack of Nick the Stick is merely the first in a series of gaping holes. I might also point out that the Wierema and Pontzer areas of Smash Bros. were largely separate save for the occasional reunion game. While the regular player of need hardly be reminded, our less practiced readers might not be aware that Samus' Up B is Falcon's best friend. Without the incapacitation provided by this nigh un-blockable move, the 10 second windup on our avian commander's punch renders it all but useless. Finally, I might add that Rico is not only wrong on the particulars but offers a strangely static vision of Smash Bros. history. As the records clearly show, while my play with Samus was unorthodox, it was undoubtedly the most effective style of play for that character. As I progressed to Falcon and Donkey Kong, rarely was I absent from the fray. The bizzare complaints of a certain roommate and Pontzer that my characters threw too much are otherwise inexplicable.

Oh, one more thing. Rico's analysis of the Ponz is spot on.

Blog Bonanza 2008!

Because (1) I have nothing to do at work, (2) I can't really ask anyone for things to do, and (3) I want to look a little busy, I've decided to type long blog posts into Microsoft Word, email them to myself, and post them when I get home.

Lucky you!

Open Book, RIP

Well, Amy's finally done it. At least, allegedly, though I can't see her going back full time. It really is sad in it's heyday (and even past it) Open Book was the best Catholic blog around. Her "Theory of Everything Posts" were just fantastic, and maybe not gone for good? Here's hoping someone will the void soon.

My new title

Apropos of this and this, I've decided to make myself the official "blog czar" of Whatever Happened to Crazy?.

Also, there was a fantastic letter to the editor in a Madison paper the other day about how we don't need a "war czar," we need a "peace czar." And just when I thought there were no jobs fit for Dennis Kucinich.

Ron Paul smells funny.

He also hates puppies.

Just following J-Pod's advice to boost traffic here.

In all honesty, he (Paul, not J-Pod) is quite the kook. As of now, I am ignorant as to his personal hygiene and his attitude towards undeveloped canines.

What Danger Zone?

I would just like to point out that as my posting here has decreased, over at The Corner, a certain "Mark Steyn" has had a vastly increased role. Interesting, eh?

P.S. That makes five posts in one day. Booyah, Grandma. Booyah.

Danger Zone

I think we've officially entered the blog "Danger Zone." We've been doing this for a few months now and we haven't achieved fame or fortune yet. If I don't start posting again soon, this blog might go the way of Britney Spears' movie career.

Luckily, I have all sorts of information to bring. For starters, did you know that Heroes' Masi Oka wrote programming code for the special effects of movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean, War of the Worlds, Hulk, Terminator 3, and the last three Star Wars movies? Hiro Nakamura, badass.

Tidying Up

I'm going to gracefully sidestep Rico's latest post and instead turn to the one before that.

Is is me, or is he complaining about his astronomically high LSAT score? The nerve. Think of all those poor people stuck toiling at second rate schools like the University of Chicago because that's all their pathetic scores could get them.

I would also like to bring to light that, out of the grand total of three comments this blog has elicited, two of them were from Rico's friend who attached them to my posts as if I were Rico.

Christmas Day

Well, ok, it's not actually Christmas Day, but I thought I'd share with you, our loyal audience, my favorite Christmas song.

After much trolling through the internet (while I should have been doing schoolwork), I was finally able to figure out how to embed sound into Blogger. Voila:

The songs in the medley are "Good Christian Men Rejoice"; "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"; "The First Noel"; and "Come Ye Lofty, Come Ye Lowly." I really can't get over when "Come Ye Lofty, Come Ye Lowly" kicks in. Awesome. It's the fifth track from Carol by the American Boychoir. The whole CD is fabulous. "Christmas Day," "This Christmastide," "Carol of the Bells," and "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" are the highlights.
